EarthShift's motivation from the very beginning has been to help build a world in which abundance and environmental sustainability are not mutually exclusive. But there is no doubt that abundance has been unequally distributed around the planet and has often been at the cost of human and natural resources.

Alexis de Tocqueville, in his 19th century treatise “Democracy in America,” observed that, unlike in Europe, Americans from various strata of society worked together to build schools, churches and other institutions that formed communities. He described it as “self interest, rightly understood.”
That is precisely how we view the urgent need to build sustainable practices in government, industry, agriculture, commerce, energy and transportation.

Although these practices have often been portrayed as requiring sacrifice, the good news is quite the opposite. Sustainable practices in modern economies produce positive economic returns in nearly all cases and in relatively short time frames.

Earth Shift's educational component is committed to broadening the understanding of how to produce positive environmental and social outcomes using sophisticated software tools that analyze and deliver complex data. Our on site and online training provide broad access to understanding the use of these tools.

Our consulting services take clients through Life Cycle Assessment and Total Cost Assessment evaluations as the practical application of sustainability efforts.

Our purpose is to demystify the reality of sustainability. Like the sorcerer's apprentice, we hope that each person we train will go on to broaden the knowledge and practice of responsible environmental, social and economic decision making.

In this particular matter, self interest and broad societal interests are indistinguishable
